The shots definitely helped A LOT with Elsie, but we still need to take steps to minimize the allergens in our home. Elsie is also allergic to dust – which often means dust mites. We’ve found that using dust mite covers on our mattresses and pillows helped us, so if Napoleon sleeps near your bed, it’s possible it could help him too. You’ll want to regularly wash Napoleon’s bedding too. The dehumidifier is also supposed to be very good at keeping down the mites – we use ours throughout the year, as we live in a pretty humid climate. Keeps down mold too (another allergen). I guess there isn’t one right answer, we all just need to try to find the best combination of steps that works for our pet and our family.
I don’t know the dosage that Britney was on, but I do know that I have been taking Prednisone for about 10 years now for my Rheumatoid Arthritis. Started at a high dose and am now on a low maintenance dose. My bloodwork is done every 2 months and even after 10 years, there has been no adverse side effects to my liver. I have tried to go off, but I need it. I would rather take the Prednisone, than suffer with the disease.
If Banjo ever needed to take it, it wouldn’t bother me at all to give it to her, based on my experience with it.
I don’t know anything about the Vanectyl-p.
I hope this eases your mind.
I have my Golden on Vanectyl-P and it seems to be doing its job. Last year I had him on Pred and he was fine but I didn’t like how heavy the dose he was on was. I’m not really a fan on medication to begin with so the heavy dose of Pred didn’t make me feel comfortable. He is on a low dose of Vanectyl-P along with Medi-Cal Skin Support. This food has done wonders for my dogs coat. It is no longer dry and is shiny and not greasy. It has also helped with the smell that seems to go along with the whole allergy thing. I would highly recommend checking Medi-Cal Skin Support out since it alone has made such a difference in my dogs condition. It alone will also help with the itchiness and other problems that are caused by the allergies. I have worked at a vet clinic for a number of years now and have noticed the difference this food has made in a number of dogs lives.
